Travelling on the Right Passport
Australian citizens are generally expected to enter and leave Australia on an Australian passport. Standing for Federal Parliament
Under section 44 of the Constitution, a person who is a citizen of a foreign country cannot be chosen for, or sit in, the Federal Parliament. If you ever plan to stand for federal election, you would need to take all reasonable steps to renounce your British citizenship first. Some other roles, such as certain defence or security positions, may also consider dual citizenship.
Consular Help
When you are in one of your countries of citizenship, the other country's ability to help you may be limited. For example, Australian consular assistance can be restricted when you are in the UK as a British citizen.
