You cannot book an Australian citizenship test on its own. The test is part of your citizenship application: you apply first, and the Department of Home Affairs then invites you to a citizenship appointment, where you usually sit the test. Depending on where you live and current arrangements, the invitation may give you a set time or ask you to choose or confirm one.

Step 1: Apply for Citizenship First
There is no standalone test booking. You must first lodge a citizenship application — for most people, citizenship by conferral, lodged online through ImmiAccount. Step 2: Watch for Your Appointment Invitation
The Department usually contacts you by email, through ImmiAccount or by letter. The invitation tells you the date, time and location, or explains how to book or confirm a time. To avoid missing it:
- Keep your contact details up to date in ImmiAccount.
- Check your junk and spam folders regularly.
- Read the whole message — it lists the documents you must bring.
How Booking the Citizenship Test Works in Practice
Appointments are generally held at Department of Home Affairs offices, and in some areas at other locations. The appointment has two parts: an officer checks your original identity documents, and, if you are required to, you then sit the test on a computer. Do I Pay to Book the Test?
No separate booking fee applies. The test is covered as part of your citizenship application. Check the Department's website for current application fees.
Preparing for the Appointment Day
Once you have a date, plan the practical details. Check the address and how long it takes to get there, allow time for parking or public transport, and aim to arrive a little early. Put your original documents and your appointment letter in one folder the night before. Bring reading glasses if you use them, because the test is on a computer screen.
Rescheduling or Missing an Appointment
If you genuinely cannot attend — for example because of illness or an emergency — contact the Department as soon as possible using the details in your invitation. Do not simply stay away: missing an appointment without a good reason can delay your application or even lead to it being refused. Keep evidence, such as a medical certificate, in case you need it.
Asking for Special Arrangements
